Today a remixed and recut version of my movie, Black Mask, will be released in America.
Back in 1996, when we filmed the movie, we didn�t have enough money to include state-of-the-art sound and visual effects. As you know, a movie is not just a series of pictures; dialogue and music and sound effects are just as important in creating the emotional experience of watching a movie. I�m happy that Artisan Entertainment decided to redo the sound and effects for the American release of Black Mask. The results should be interesting. Original images in new packaging -- who knows what kind of new feelings and new receptions it will evoke?
I myself have not yet seen the new version of Black Mask. I�m looking forward to watching it in a theater, because I really want to see the audience reaction -- to observe what parts they like and don�t like. For those of you who have already seen the Hong Kong version, I would be very interested to hear your comments on the differences between the earlier version and the new one. In any case, I hope you enjoy the movie!
